What Is The Difference Between 9kt And 18kt Gold?Updated 2 months ago

One of the most common questions we receive from couples planning their custom engagement or wedding rings is: What is the difference between 9kt and 18kt gold?

Pure gold is too soft for everyday wear, so both 9kt and 18kt gold are alloyed with other metals for strength and durability.

  • 18kt gold contains 75% pure gold and 25% alloy. It’s our preferred gold for long-wearing jewellery due to its rich, warm colour and enduring strength. Ideal for heirloom-quality pieces.

  • 9kt gold contains 37.5% pure gold and 62.5% alloy. This makes it harder and more scratch-resistant, but also paler in tone and more prone to oxidisation over time.
